A Life Stopped

A moment of stillness on my morning spree,
a feathered life ended, laid bare for me.
The sidewalk felt colder, the day dropped its cheer,
it whispered of fragility, drawing me near.
Feathers splayed open, a canvas of gray,
how soft is the body that’s now lost its way.
I kneel for a moment, reflect on the weight,
and marvel at loss—the cruel hand of fate.
