The Small Discomforts

I walked too long, feet whispering complaints,

now a swollen red spot stains the skin faint.

A friend waited, the world was wide,

but this small disruption swelled with pride.

I try to laugh it off, to shake the pain,

a little blister, but it's more like a chain.

It holds me back, stings with each step,

as if to remind me of risks I’d left inept.
