Fingers Laced

I caught a glimpse of my face in the glass,

startled by how long it’s been since I felt

the warmth of another, the skin like a pass

that slips through fingers, a secret we dealt.

At the park, I watched two hands intertwined,

laughter like petals that floated away,

and I felt the loneliness, sharp as a line,

a hunger for contact in the light of the day.

Oh, to be held in that gentle embrace,

lost in the warmth of a body so near,

where distance dissolves, and we can replace

the shadows with laughter, erase every fear.
