False Alarms

A siren screamed sharp, split the mundane air,

we scrambled outside, relief turned to glare.

Gray skies watched over our collective dread,

but the truth emerged, it was all in our heads.

Faces in confusion, shuffling in place,

awaiting the signal, the end of the chase.

Life returned to normal as we ambled back in,

a false alarm lived, yet felt like a sin.
