Cost of Warmth

The bill slipped in, a shadow to face,

a reminder of winter’s relentless embrace.

Sitting alone with the math all laid bare,

it’s not just the cost, but the weight in the air.

Cold creeps through cracks in the window frame,

reminders of warmth, but it feels just the same.

An unopened letter, anxiety grows,

like winter’s chill seeping in through my clothes.
