Between the Flames

Up on the ledge, cool metal, my breath,

a refuge from heat, from noise, from death.

The argument lingers, bitter and sharp,

I lean on the railing, to silence the spark.


Heat smolders below, life churns in despair,

but here in this stillness, I find I can care.

With the world far away, I’ll gather my thoughts,

a moment of peace in a life that’s forgot.
