Lost Numbers

Fingers fumbling over rusted dials,

metal biting nails like secrets.

The numbers don’t line up

or maybe my mind’s off rhythm.

I tap, I twist—wrong again.

That heavy lock seals what I forgot.

Something locked away,

but I don’t remember why.

Old keys buried under clutter

or lost in the shuffle of years.

A cold weight in the palm,

a silence harder to crack than steel.
