The Cord That Almost Burned the House

Orange snake coiled in dust,

frayed like the edges of my patience.

Pulled it out—cracked, exposed,

a naked wire twitching under thin skin.

I almost didn’t see it,

almost touched that pulse

that could have lit the dark

or burned down the quiet rooms

where silence wasn’t safe.
